In this workshop, the participants will be given first-hand experience of being a data scientist, working on a data project using the popular and powerful R programming language. The project will cover topics such as formulating and solving problems, getting data, exploring and pre-process the data, evaluating the findings, as well as reporting and presenting the findings. Real-world case studies of data science projects related Digital Lifestyle Management shall be shared and discussed. This workshop is open to both technical and nontechnical professionals who are keen to understand, explore and experience data science.

Speakers Profile

Ir. Dr. Michael Tan, CEng
Dr. Michael Tan received his PhD from University of Cambridge (Queens' College), UK. He has been using Matlab and R languages tofind patterns and signals in data that at first appears to be chaos and noise. He has conducted trainings for data analytics and visualization using Matlab. To date, Dr. Michael Tan has published over 40 papers in renown international journals and conferences. He is currently a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is also a professional engineer (Board of Engineers Malaysia) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Ir. Dr. Kumeresan A. D.
Dr. Kumeresan has more than 10 years of teaching and research experience in control engineering. His work often involves developing machine learning techniques to solve complex problems. He has been using Matlab and R for his work, and has conducted several trainings for Matlab to the industry. Dr. Kumeresan is currently a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He holds a B. Eng. and M. Eng. both from Universiti of Teknologi Malaysia, and PhD from Aalborg University, Denmark.
